Abstract

Transaction costs on corn farming can affect the income of corn farming. This research aimed to identify the transaction cost economics (TCE) structure and analyze the effect of TCE on the income of hybrid corn farming. The research method used is TCE analysis and multiple linear regression analysis. This research was conducted in Cihaur Village, Maja Subdistrict, Majalengka Regency, West Java, on 64 respondents. The research results showed that the transaction cost economics component on hybrid corn farming consists of (1) information cost; (2) negotiation cost; (3) coordination cost; (4) implementation cost; and (5) risk cost. The amount of the transaction cost that is formed on hybrid corn farming was Rp105,421.16. The percentage of transaction cost to total production cost was 2,78%. Coordination costs consisted of meeting cost, and farmer group fees have the highest transaction costs component, leading to 41,96%. On the other hand, risk cost has the lowest prices, merely 3,09%, in which there are avoiding risk cost and controlling risk cost. The results showed that the seven variables tested had significant effects on the income of corn farming. These variables included land area, fertilizer costs, seed costs, selling price, labor wages, productivity, and transaction cost. Abstract

The prices of strategic food commodities, namely rice, red chili, chicken, beef, shallots, eggs, sugar, and cooking oil, are monitored to measure Indonesia's inflation in the food category. This study intended to explore the chili agrosystems as an essential Indonesian daily cuisine due to its perishable nature and its variably supply chain. The state-of-the-art approach from various research databases was used and supplemented with secondary data gathered from the related enterprise. The study revealed that food strategic web-based information systems on production, consumption, and price are under different authorities. Concerning the chili case, even though there was a production surplus, price fluctuation increasing the risk of lowering motivation to plant. The number of actors involved itemizes eight chili's supply chain main patterns. In conclusion, chili trade and freight margins favoured supply chain actors but not the farmer itself. The welfare of the farmers is not good condition. It is characterized by proxy indicators, the majority of which are only slightly more than 100. The situation creates a new risk of decreasing motivation in farming. Further study using manageable chili enterprise systems is required to bring farmers closer to end consumers and improve their welfare. Abstract

In addition to premium subsidies, Indonesia's government implements other intervention programs as a stimulus to boost farmers’ participation in Rice Farmers Business Insurance (AUTP). Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of the government intervention program in 2019 that requires participation in AUTP as a prerequisite for redeeming subsidized fertilizer. This study also aimed to ascertain the socioeconomic factors that influence farmers to participate. Meanwhile, primary data were obtained through questionnaires distributed from March 23 to April 6, 2020, and completed by 103 farmers in 14 villages in Sliyeg, Indramayu. The data were analyzed with McNemar Test to determine the effect of farmers’ participation in AUTP when the government intervention program was implemented and terminated. Furthermore, Logistic Regression Analysis is used to ascertain the socioeconomic factors that influence farmers to participate. The result showed that the program affects their participation in AUTP. This level is higher when the program is enforced and decreased when terminated. The socio-economics variables that influenced farmers to participate in AUTP when implemented in the government program are land ownership status and land size, while only land size influenced them when terminated. Abstract

Organic food (OF) market is claimed as the fastest growing market in 20th century. Therefore, there are much research about finding factors that affect purchase intention towards OF, one of them is the Food Choice Questionnaire (FCQ), by which it is easy to assess nine distinct food choice motives and one important domain which is represented in FCQ is food choice based on ethical reasons. However, environmental protection or ecological motives is the most important motive to consume organic food. This study aims to see how fanaticism towards eco-friendly would affect the purchase intention and decision of organic food from the student’s perspective. This study uses 250 respondents from agricultural universities in Indonesia and Thailand, picked by purposive sampling method. This study found that fanaticism towards environmental friendliness affects purchase intention of organic food and purchase intention, simultaneously affects the purchase decision significantly in both countries. The moderating effect of price only affects the effect purchase intention on purchase decision of organic food in Indonesia. This happens because Thailand and Indonesia have different fanatic score and level of household monthly income. This study is helped by SmartPLS 3.0 to run the SEM-PLS and VALS Survey to analyze characteristics of respondents. Keywords: environment-friendly fanaticism, organic food, purchase intention, purchase decision, VALS Survey

Abstract

The sustainability issue has pushed the food industry, continually looking for new materials to reduce and replace plastics in their packaging. However, the recent development of novel materials is still less satisfactory due to different involvement from different vital players such as government, society, and industry. This paper analyzed the critical success factors of new material development for food packaging based on different key players, involvements, and interests. A survey was conducted by the authors to gather information related to the development factors and the participation factors based on the three key players. This research employed descriptive quantitative design. This design allows research to collect and describe the found clusters and factors. The results revealed that the critical success factors are classified into five clusters, namely technical substitution, technical drivers/barriers, application barriers, cost barriers, and raw material supply barriers. Differently from developed countries, the critical vital players' participation, especially from the government, was essential in developing new material for food packages. Then explore the opportunity to develop productivity enhancement of small-scale cassava chips SMEs. The research location referred to the cassava production centre in Lampung, which involved six District regions. Respondent was 60 small-scale cassava industries. Field survey had taken from February to April 2017. Analyzed data designed by the frontier production and binary logistic regression model. The production efficiency value of cassava chips SMEs achieved 61% on average. The achievement value still less than the optimum efficiency. The cassava chips SMEs still operated at a medium level of technical efficiency. Input combination is not optimum, and technology facilities even limited caused the production output not to reach the manufactured capacity the production run under the capacity production. Scale-up the production capacity is necessary. The introduction of the new technology equipment opens the possibilities in scale-up capacity production. The opportunity to adopt the new cassava processing equipment's strongly was affected by human resources skills and appropriate production equipment. The cassava SMEs technology application is significantly determined by experience and production equipment. Furthermore, the proper linkage between SMEs and university or research agencies is necessary to improve technology adoption. Abstract

The main problem of Carica farming in Kejajar District was the differences in farmers' prices in the collection and processing Carica fruit industry. The product marketed by the farmers was fresh Carica fruit and information about the minimum selling price caused them to be unable to determine the right institution. These problems affected Carica's marketing channel, leading to market inefficiencies. This study's place was selected purposively in Kejajar District, Wonosobo Regency, with the consideration that Kejajar Subdistrict is a Carica center with a production of 4,589 tons (68%) of the total Carica production in Wonosobo Regency. The research was conducted from October - November 2020. The Structure Conduct Performance (SCP) method was used to analyze the marketing channels. The results of the marketing channel analysis show that the market structure formed at the farm level was in the form of a purely competitive market, and at the trader level, the market structure was formed by oligopoly. There were six Carica-marketing channels with cash payment systems, and the merchant determined the purchase price. The highest farmer’s share and profit to cost ratio was channel I (farmer → processing industry) and VI (farmer → village collector → processing industry). The marketing efficiency analysis results show that the marketing of Carica was inefficient because the farmer's share at four marketing channels received by farmers was still less than 40%.
